The Michigan Department of Transportation says it will begin a project along M-60 near Niles next week. It says it’s resurfacing the shoulders along seven miles of M-60 between US-12 and Leet Road. The $1.2 million investment includes cold milling, resurfacing, and asphalt shoulder widening. The work is intended to preserve the pavement and extend the life of the road, as well as improve ride quality and safety for drivers. MDOT says improved shoulder pavement provides a safe alternate lane when work is being performed on the travel lanes or when traffic needs to be diverted around a crash. The project starts Monday and will finish September 2. It will mean single lane closures.
