The Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce is being disolved and the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber will move in to serve as a representative for greater Stevensville area business owners. Lakeshore Chamber Board President Tom Norbey shared the news with members this week in the form of a letter which outlined the rationale behind the decision and what it means moving forward. He said it’s become difficult to find the volunteers for the Lakeshore Chamber to meet the needs of members. According to Norbey, many Lakeshore Chamber members already carry dual memberships with the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber. The two chambers have worked out an agreement that will offer reduced membership rates for any Lakeshore Chamber member that did not already hold a membership with the regional chamber. Norbey says the regional chamber, “with local, full-time staff leveraging a resource-rich regional network, not only understands what our member’s needs are, they have the knowledge, connections, and resources to meet them.” The Lakeshore Chamber is shutting down after 55 years of service to the area.
