Rivefest is this weekend in Benton Harbor. Riverfest is a new event inspired by events of the past. To be held at Charles Yarborough Park on Riverview Drive Friday and Saturday, the event will bring together residents to enjoy art, live music, and food. Benton Harbor City Commissioner Sharon Henderson tells WSJM News it was inspired by riverfests that used to happen in the 1980s, and it’s nice to bring people together.

“I think I’m most proud of how many people in the city rallied around us, and I really haven’t had any negative energy around the event,” Henderson said. “It’s been a lot of positives and people supporting this event.”

Music performances will take place throughout the event featuring Friday night headliner Niki Haris, while Saturday night’s featured performer will be the Andrew Fisher Quartet. Supporting acts include Work in Progress, Sankofa, St. Joe Jack, Erick Fisher, and the Midwest’s number one Michael Jackson impersonator, Rico Hampton. There’s a 5K planned and a kids circus camp. Henderson says she hopes Riverfest becomes annual. You can get tickets online or at the door. Those who are 14 and under get in for free. You can find out more right here.
