Congressman Fred Upton has signed on to a letter calling for the Biden administration to maintain Title 42 authority at the southern U.S. border to stem the surge of migrants. He tells WSJM News the administration has made a change to how asylum seekers are processed that allows them to enter the country while their cases are evaluated.

“It ought to be done in the host country,” Upton said. “In other words, use our embassy staff in those host countries to determine if someone deserves asylum or that designation. President Biden reversed that. We’ve had a huge flow of folks coming into the border.”

Upton has also signed on to a discharge petition to ensure that COVID protocols remain in place. That would mean migrants entering the country would have to be quarantined and tested for COVID. The letter to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was written by Michigan Congresswoman Lisa McClain.
