Set for next Friday will be an event in South Haven that combines art and the environment. The Michigan Maritime Museum’s Ashley Deming tells WSJM News Make a Splash with Trash will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. as a partnership with the South Haven Center for the Arts.

“We are teaming up in a way to showcase how art, science, and conservation really all kind of work together,” Deming said. “It is a combination of a beach cleanup, and we’re going to take those items, bring them back to the museum, and we’re going to make art out of those found items.”

Deming says some local artists will have a sculpture already installed at the Maritime Museum, and then they’ll help those who take part in Make a Splash with Trash. She invites everyone to stop by.

“It’s just a really great opportunity to come outside, feel good about a beach cleanup, and then make something cool out of what you find.”

The event kicks off with the beach cleanup at 10 a.m. and everyone will go back to the Michigan Maritime Museum at 11 a.m. to work on their art. It’s free to participate and you don’t have to register. Deming says everyone can just show up.
