Recent storms have created a run on appliances and local stores that sell them have been struggling to keep up. Assistant Manager Ewan Leung at Hawthorne Appliances in Birmingham told Michigan News Network that between power surges from outages and flood damages, demand for appliances is up about 65%.

“Washers, dryers, and refrigerators,” Leung said. “Mostly the electronic stuff. Dishwashers also.”

Leung says the demand, coupled with supply and labor shortages means that some appliance brands have waiting lists of four months.
