The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a buzzed driving campaign heading into Labor Day while law enforcement nationwide are taking part in the annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. The sheriff’s department says “If You Feel Different, You Drive Different. Drive High, Get a DUI” impaired driving awareness campaign started Wednesday and runs through September 6. The campaign focuses on those who use substances like marijuana and then drive. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, between 2009 and 2018, of those drivers killed in crashes and tested for marijuana, the presence of marijuana had nearly doubled. Police agencies across Berrien County will watch out for those buzzed drivers, along with drunk drivers. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department warns Labor Day partiers that if they drive drunk and are caught, they will go to jail. Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey urges everyone to make “the right choice and find a sober ride home if you’ve used an impairing substance.”
