MDOT Suspending Lane Restrictions For Labor Day

The Michigan Department of Transportation is suspending road projects around the state for Labor Day weekend. MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells WSJM News lanes will be open where possible in order to help reduce traffic congestion as hundreds of thousands of Michiganders hit the road. Of course, there are some places where the road can’t be reopened.

“If we’ve taken part of a bridge out, clearly we’re not going to be able to just get out of the way,” Schirripa said. “That bridge can’t reopen. So there are some projects were restrictions are going to remain in place. If you’re in Berrien County, obviously the I-94 US-31 project, there’s a lot going on there.”

Schirripa says other areas where MDOT has been working in southwest Michigan will have lane restrictions lifted. You can find updates on MDOT work all over the state at Michigan.gov/Drive.
