The United Way of Southwest Michigan is now signing up volunteers for its annual Rake A Difference event. The United Way’s Jennifer Tomshack tells WSJM News this will be the eleventh year for Rake A Difference.

“We have been mobilizing hundreds of volunteers throughout the area to help seniors get their yards ready for winter by raking leaves, bagging them, and also cleaning out gutters,” Tomshack said.

Tomshack says getting that work done ahead of winter is important to prevent damage to homes in the spring. However, some seniors can’t rake leaves or clean out gutters on their own. The United Way is seeking around 800 to 1,000 volunteers for the event throughout Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties.

“It’s a really popular event. people love doing it. It’ so gratifying because you see the people you’re helping.”

The United Way of Southwest Michigan is signing up volunteers and seniors for the program now. Tomshack says Rake A Difference will take place on November 11. You can register right here.
