The Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven has received a $500,000 capital project grant from the state of Michigan. It says the grant, along with millions of privately raised funds, will add a new Maritime Heritage Center building, expand exhibit and community event space, and protect the harbor’s infrastructure and access. State Senator Aric Nesbitt, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, helped the museum helped secure the grant. Nesbit says the “Michigan Maritime Museum is a treasure, their team is tremendous,” adding he’s grateful it’s in the community. The Michigan Maritime Museum is currently working on a capital improvement project that has raised a total of $6.2 million.
