The Van Buren County Board of Commissioners is seeking proposals from residents, businesses, and community organizations for suggestions on how to spend federal money that’s come through American Rescue Plan Act. Counties across the country received billions in federal dollars through the COVID-19 relief package, and the funds have to be used in certain ways. The Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund will help Van Buren County in responding to the economic and public health effects of COVID-19, and the Van Buren County Board of Commissioners has set up a committee to determine how to spend the federal money. The projects that can be supported with ARPA dollars must support the public health response to COVID-19, address the economic effects of COVID, serve underserved communities, help with infrastructure, or replace lost public sector revenue. The county’s ARPA committee meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. Also, suggestions can be emailed to the county administrator.
