President Joe Biden was in Michigan Tuesday to push for an infrastructure package. Speaking in Howell in Livingston County, Biden said the United States is facing a problem with crumbling roads and bridges.

“Across the country right now, 45,000 bridges and 173,000 miles of roads, according to the Society of Engineers, are in poor condition right now, including more than 1,200 bridges, as the governor’s been fighting to repair, here in your state,” Biden said.

Biden said everyone there in Howell probably know the most dangerous intersection in their town, just like people do in towns everywhere. He also called for more investment in electric vehicle production.

“Here in Michigan, we need to make sure that American auto workers lead the world in electric vehicles,” Biden said.

Biden said the whole world knows the future of the automobile is electric, and the U.S. can’t fall behind. He warned China is making infrastructure investments the U.S. is not.
