Commission Honors Buchanan Olympic Athlete

Hannah Roberts, the 19-year-old Olympic athlete from Buchanan who won a silver medal this summer in Tokyo in Women’s BMX Freestyle has been honored by the Berrien County Board of Commissioners. During Thursday’s meeting, the board’s resolution saluting Roberts was read.

“She was the first women to land a difficult trick called a 360 tail whip in competition, and whereas she went on to earn her third world title and became the first woman to qualify for the Olympic games in the BMX freestyle event, and whereas as a part of Team USA, Hannah Roberts won a silver medal this past summer in her sport,” the resolution states.

The resolution noted Roberts began BMX riding at the age of nine and entered her first competition in 2012. She competed in China in 2017 and became a world champion at 16. With the county board’s unanimous approval of the honorary resolution, it will be given to her. It says Berrien County is proud to have her as one of its own.
