Berrien Springs will receive a loan from the USDA to replace more than a mile of watermain along with the associated hydrants, valves, water services, and more. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack said the over $1.3 million loan is essential to maintaining the integrity of the water distribution system. Berrien Springs will use a second loan of nearly $1.75 million to replace manholes and 7,000 feet of sewer main. These improvements will protect local ground water. The department is giving $27.4 million in loans for modernizing rural drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in seven rural Michigan communities.
