Congressman Fred Upton is supporting a move by the U.S. House to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 U.S. service men and women who were killed by terrorists at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan in August. He tells us the House voted to do so last week.

“The 13 brave soldiers lost their lives while trying to help evacuate American citizens and folks that helped our armed forces in Afghanistan,” Upton said. “That terrible suicide bombing in Kabul a couple of months ago took 13 lives, and we’re going to try to honor them in a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol awarding their survivors with a Congressional Gold Medal for their service.”

Upton says the Congressional Gold Medal is a small token of gratitude for their service and sacrifice. Following the House vote, the matter was sent to the U.S. Senate. Upton says the families of those who were killed could come to Washington to receive the medals.
