Hunters can expect excellent conditions for the 2021 firearm deer season. Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers are ready for the season and have tips to avoid the most common violations and mistakes they see every year. Here’s the DNR’s Sergeant Jason Becker spoke with Michigan News Network about respecting property rules.

“People are not mindful and respectful of property lines,” Becker said. “So, it is very important to know where property boundaries are, and to be on property where you have permission to hunt. Also, with that being said. if you happen to shoot a deer and it settled on another piece of property, you have to have permission before you go retrieve that mammal.”

Becker says he investigates acts of hunter harassment every season. He says intentionally sabotaging another hunter’s quality opportunity to take game is a misdemeanor offense.
