The second attempt to recall Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad in recent months has failed. The Berrien County Clerk’s office tells us the Berrien County Election Commission met Wednesday and determined recall language filed by Benton Harbor resident Quacy Roberts had a legal issue and could not be approved. The commission said the language, which said Muhammad should be recalled for voting to increase the water rates in Benton Harbor, didn’t apply to something that occurred within Muhammad’s current term. This was the second recall petition Roberts filed against Muhammad after the first was also rejected. Roberts later on Wednesday filed a third recall petition against Muhammad, with the stated reason being “For voting yes for a state of emergency.”
