Some state lawmakers are introducing bills to make navigating the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency easier as they say it needs more transparency. State Representative Jack O’Malley has introduced a bill and told Michigan News Network about the need.

“All of our offices were dealing with our constituents, which included both constituents and employers, that were just totally confused or being shut down by locked out phone, etc. So what this bill would do is create an unemployment citizens advocate.”

Thousands of people who received federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance are being told they have to pay that money back. That’s the latest in a series of problems with the agency.
