It’s been a tough year for animal shelters and many animals are staying in shelters longer than they normally would. The Bissell Pet Foundation is sponsoring its Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope event now through December 20th. The Bissell Pet Foundation’s Brittany Schlacter told Michigan News Network more.

“This event that’s taking place right now across the country in 41 states and Canada is an opportunity for folks to go out and get into shelters and to adopt pets at reduced adoption fees,” Schlacter said.

Schlacter says 40 shelters in Michigan are taking part and you can adopt a pet for as little as $25 and they’ll be spayed or neutered, have their shots, and be micro-chipped. If you can’t adopt a pet now, she says you can always volunteer at a shelter, foster a pet, or donate to the Bissell Pet Foundation. You can find out more right here.
