$100 Million Lawsuits Filed Over Oxford Shooting

Attorney Geoffrey Fieger has filed two $100 million lawsuits on behalf of two sisters who attend Oxford High School, one of whom was shot in the attack on November 30. Fieger announced Thursday the federal suit names Oxford Community School District, Superintendent Tim Throne, Oxford High School Principal Steven Wolf, and other school officials. He said the school knew shooter Ethan Crumbley was dangerous, but let him go back to class after pulling him out and calling his parents.

“At Oxford High School they’ll search your backpack if they think you’re vaping, but they refused to suspend or search a student who wrote what we now know were reams of homicidal notes and drawings, scenes of classroom slaughter and mayhem,” Fieger said. “We know that they refused to call authorities, that there was a police liaison available who could have been called in.”

Fieger said the Oakland County Prosecutor has done what she can by charging the shooter and his parents, but that’s not enough. The purpose of the lawsuits, he said, is to make it extremely costly to schools for failing to keep students safe. Fieger admitted there are laws in Michigan that make it difficult to sue a school, but said he won’t give up. Four students were killed and eight people were wounded in the attack.
