A Coloma High School student was taken into police custody on Thursday after allegedly making threat at school. Coloma Township Police Chief Wes Smigielski tells us the 17-year-old was talking about guns and schools being shot up shortly after 10 a.m. The student said later he was talking about a video game. The school was put on a soft lockdown during which classes continued but no visitors were allowed in, and the student was led away in handcuffs. Smigielski says the student was interviewed by police and didn’t resist. A search of his person and home found no weapons. The matter will be referred to the prosecutor. Smigielski says students need to learn these situations are not a joke. He says these incidents at schools take up limited police resources and advises students to “do school stuff, do teenage stuff,” but don’t make these comments or jokes. The student was released to his parents.
