400 Teddy bears have been delivered to Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph through South Bend International Airport’s Bears in the Air program. For ten years now, the airport has collected and delivered 2,000 bears to hospitals throughout its region. The hospital’s Jessica Springer tells WSJM News they got their delivery Tuesday.

“No one ever wants to be in the hospital, but these bears serve as an added comfort during a difficult time to patients who are at Lakeland, and we know that they put a lot of smiles on faces and bring a lot of comfort to our pediatric patients and their families.”

Springer says the Teddy bears will be given to kids throughout the year at several Spectrum Health Lakeland facilities. The airport also delivered bears to Elkhart General Hospital, Saint Joseph Health System in Mishawaka, and Beacon Children’s Hospital in South Bend on Monday.
