It’s expected to be a very busy travel season this year. Detroit Metro Airport anticipates 1.2 million travelers during the holidays, a significant increase compared to this time last year. Airport spokesperson Erica Donerson shared some tips with Michigan News Network for those traveling with gifts.

“Please do not wrap your presents before going through the checkpoints,” Donerson said. “There may be a chance that they have to be unwrapped so that our TSA team can actually take a look at what’s inside, and that’s always really disappointing.”

Donerson also recommends arriving early, packing a mask, which is still required for flying. Also, if it’s been a while since you last traveled, check the online list of TSA approved carry-on items.
