After southwest Michigan was ranked 44th on a worldwide list of 2022 tourist destinations by TravelAndLeisure.com, the Southwest Michigan Tourist Council says it’s good to see the region get recognition. The council’s Marcy Simpson tells WSJM News travel has been steadily growing to the area, and that’s because it’s got everything.

“We have four very distinctive seasons,” Simpson said. “We have the fall harvests and fall colors. In the spring, we have fruit orchards, and blossom driving tours. The winner brings snow shoeing and flat tire biking, and then Lake Michigan is the number one attraction with our beaches and our beautiful waterfronts.”

The Travel and Leisure list points to southwest Michigan’s “new high-style accommodations and hyper-local experiences” as well as the lakeshore as reasons to visit. Simpson says the array of popular attractions is expanding, especially in the wineries and breweries the region has. He says this past summer saw a giant travel boom to southwest Michigan with numbers that surpassed 2019.
