Bipartisan economic development legislation signed this past week by Governor Gretchen Whitmer will be a boost to the state, says Cornerstone Alliance President Rob Cleveland. He was present when the governor signed the bill in Detroit and tells WSJM News one component of it is to support the development of sites for businesses.

“Cornerstone Alliance has actually spent many decades trying to prepare better sites here in Berrien County,” Cleveland said. “There’s a Cornerstone Industrial Park just north of the airport, which has 40 to 50 buildable acres. That’s definitely on the smaller side. We’ve also invested heavily with Indiana Michigan Power to create a site out by the Meadowbrook and Yore area just south of Lake Michigan College, and that has several hundred acres.”

Cleveland says Cornerstone Alliance will seek some of the funds for site development included in the legislation. He tells us the other aspect of the package is the creation of a fund to recruit companies to develop in the state. That’s something else Cornerstone has plenty of experience doing in Berrien County.
