A documentary about Benton Harbor is in the works. Neighbors Organizing Against Racism is working with DG Media on producing “Benton Harbor: The Story, The Pain, The Hope” to focus on the positive things happening in the community. Neighbors Organizing Against Racism President Trenton Bowens tells WSJM News he started the effort after Benton Harbor received so much attention due to problems in the community.

“One thing we do know about the people of Benton Harbor from living there, working with them, and representing them is they are strong and determined, and they also have grit, and this documentary is going to showcase how the community is coming together,” Bowens said.

Bowens says he wants to show the community telling its own story. A crowdfunding effort is underway to raise half of the production’s budget.

“Our goal is to have it raised within the next three months, hopefully, and we have to raise $2,500, and our goal is to have it released in the winter of 2022.”

Bowens says they’d like to show the documentary around the community and at venues like Lake Michigan College. They’ve already started work. They’re looking for more people who would like to be interviewed, and we have links to more information at our website. You can see a trailer for the film here.
