The Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) will be closed Dec. 30 and 31 to observe the New Year’s holiday. Anyone who needs to certify for benefits should do so early in the week.

Unemployed workers can certify for benefits online using the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM), but certification by phone will not be available when state offices are closed. Claimants who are scheduled to certify by phone this week should do so by Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Because of the upcoming holiday, there may be a one- or two-day delay before benefits are deposited into bank accounts or loaded onto debit cards.

Unemployed workers who request a new or replacement debit card may also experience delays. That could be due to higher holiday postal volumes or a card production delay of up to three days by the state’s debit card vendor, which is working to resolve the issue. In the meantime, claimants can select direct deposit as a method to receive their benefits payment.

Unemployed workers claiming benefits in Michigan must report once every two weeks that they are unemployed and meet the eligibility requirements for benefits. Certification can be completed online through MiWAM or by phone when offices are open through the Michigan Automated Response Voice Interactive Network (MARVIN). MARVIN can be reached toll-free at 1-866-638-3993.

Bi-weekly certification is just one of many services available to users through MiWAM. Claimants can access account information, review payment history, update contact information and more, all online. MiWAM is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Claimants may login or sign up for an account at Michigan.gov/UIA.

Claimants with questions about their accounts can call UIA Customer Service at 1-866-500-0017, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; employers can call 1-855-484-2636. For more information, go toMichigan.gov/UIA
