A metro Detroit honor guard is trying to get to the nation’s capital. Sergeant Joseph Reardon is the team leader for the Westland Police Honor Guard, which is raising funds to make the trip. He told Michigan News Network they’re selling honor guard challenge coins.

“The day of May 15 is known as National Pace Officers Memorial Day, a day when the nation honors those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Reardon said.

The group’s goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of next summer. They would make the trip in 2023.
