A case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has been found in Allegan County. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services sent notice to the local health department this week. It says the Omicron case is in someone who had traveled internationally. The person is fully vaccinated and booster. They are now isolating at home. Allegan County Health Officer Angelique Joynes says the discovery is not surprising, but it stresses the importance of testing. The current COVID vaccines are believed to protect against severe illness, hospitalizations, and deaths from Omicron. Anyone who feels sick is told to stay at home.
