The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety says it’s made an arrest in a Christmas Eve double murder. Police found the bodies of a 37-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man in the 700 Block of Buss Street that afternoon after getting a report of gunfire. At the time, they identified Dwand Carter as a person of interest. The department says he was picked up the next day, December 25, on an unrelated matter. However, on Thursday of this week, a warrant for two counts of open murder, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of using a weapon in the commission of a felony was served to Carter while he was being held by the Michigan Department of Corrections. He’ll be arraigned next week.
