Could where you live, the area of a city you live in, be affecting your health? That’s what a young entrepreneur in Grand Rapids believes. 29-year-old Darren Riley started Just Air Solutions and told Michigan News Network they’re is providing air monitoring sensors starting in Grand Rapids.

“The clarity in air is definitely determined by where somewhere one lives,” Riley said. “If they’re around factories, if there’re around a lot of trucking traffic, that can affect the long term health of individuals. So when we say your zip code really helps determine your health, we’re talking about those environmental factors that happen to be in your neighborhood.”

Riley, who lived in southwest Detroit for a few years, developed asthma. He says the goal is to make the air quality data transparent to make the environment healthy for everyone.
