Hartford Public Schools has begun the process of selecting a new mascot, a few months after the board of education voted to drop the old Indians name. The district has put out word to the community about a series of meetings to be held through late March. It all starts with the establishment of a student committee starting this week. Students can fill out applications and staff will select committee members next week. Student committee meetings start in early February and input surveys will be conducted among all members of the community starting February 8. Additional student committee meetings will take place throughout February and into March and another input survey will be put out in early March. The school board will then discuss possible team names March 7 and March 21. Anyone in the community can submit a name suggestion and the student committee and staff will be reaching out. The new mascot will be selected in March, followed by a process to choose an image and logo.
