State Senator Aric Nesbitt says Governor Gretchen Whitmer missed the mark with the State of the State address. While the governor proposed several tax changes in the speech, Nesbitt says he just introduced a major tax package in the Senate that’s passed the Finance Committee.

“Senate Bill 768, which was approved by the Senate Finance Committee earlier today for consideration by the full Senate, includes historic tax relief to lower incomes taxes on hard working families, provides a $500 a child tax credit, and reduces Michigan’s business tax to the lowest in the Midwest,” Nesbitt said.

Nesbitt says eliminating the pension tax sounds like a nice idea, but that only applies to people who get pensions. He says his plan helps all seniors. How about the governor’s electric vehicle tax credit proposal?

“I’m not sure how many people making $50,0000 a year can afford a new $80,000, $90,000 electric vehicle, and a $2,500 tax credit, yeah, maybe that might be helpful, but you can’t even get a vehicle right now.”

Nesbitt says the governor’s speech didn’t say enough about expanding broadband. He also thinks there should have been more about fixing water systems. He says with the huge amounts of federal funding coming into the state, the focus should be on implementing once in a lifetime opportunities.
