Congressman Fred Upton is pushing legislation that he says will make air travel safer. He tells us the Crime Doesn’t Fly Act would prohibit the Transportation Security Administration from accepting warrants for the arrest or deportation of illegal immigrants as proof of identification at aviation security checkpoints. Last month, the TSA confirmed in a letter to Congress the agency is accepting illegal immigrant arrest warrants as valid forms of identification. Upton says that means the agency is allowing people who shouldn’t be allowed to fly to do so.

“This is just yet another layer just to make sure that when we board an airplane to make sure that the No Fly system works,” Upton said.

Bill co-sponsor Congressman Rodney Davis says anyone who is in the country illegally should not be allowed to travel throughout the United States unless they’re being deported. Upton says it’s common sense that accepting ICE arrest warrants as valid ID for boarding flights should be not be allowed.
