Southwest Michigan is digging out from the snowstorm, having been hit the hardest on the west side of the state. Dan Kurzmann is a plow driver for the Van Buren County Road Commission who spoke to Michigan News Network from behind the wheel.

“We’re trying to put some material down on the hills and curves and try to clear it the best we can and wait for tomorrow,” Kurzmann said. “It sounds like it’s going to kind of lighten up, so we’ll be able to get a chance to get after it a little bit better.”

Berrien, Van Buren, Cass, Kalamazoo, and St. Joseph counties had between six and 14 inches of snow. Road crews were busy all day Wednesday and will continue getting to areas they were unable to plow Thursday. Many schools remain closed as well.
