St. Joseph City Commissioners have agreed to hold a special meeting with the Downtown Development Authority to discuss the concept of paid parking downtown. At its last meeting, the commission told the DDA to further explore the idea after such a recommendation was made. City Manager John Hodgson told commissioners Monday the DDA would like to be on the same page with them and has requested a meeting. Mayor Laura Goos noted there’s already been plenty of public feedback, and there’s now a way people can give it easily.

“For any comments on downtown parking, it is super simple,” Goos said. “Downtownparking@sjcity.com. So if you have any input, feel free to use that email address, downtownparking@sjcity.com.”

Due to city commissioners being unable to attend a meeting later this month, Goos suggested the DDA-commission meeting could be in March. No specific date is yet set. The DDA’s initial suggestion is to have paid parking using kiosks in a Parking Benefits District that follows the DDA’s boundaries. The paid parking would be in effect from April through October under that proposal. Again, that email address is downtownparking@sjcity.com.
