Lakeshore Public Schools will no longer require students to wear masks as of Tuesday. At a Monday meeting, the board of education approved a resolution changing the Return to Learn plan to end the mask mandate. Superintendent Greg Eding at first recommended waiting a bit to let everyone prepare. There was also discussion about reporting cases to the Berrien County Health Department.

“By shifting to that February 27 date, we’re having over a third of our staff who are wanting to keep in masks at this time and over 40% at the elementary school, this will give us a little bit of time to acquire some K95s for any of the staff that feel that strongly and need to have that.”

However, the board overrode him to make the change immediate. Two trustees voted no because they wanted more time to prepare. The board was interrupted several times by parents, most of them calling for the change to be immediate.
