South Bend International Airport has gotten a couple of advanced Computed Tomography checkpoint scanners. The airport says they will provide 3D imaging at the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint. The TSA says the new system applies sophisticated algorithms for the detection of explosives by creating a 3D image that can be viewed and rotated for analysis by a TSA officer. If a bag requires more screening, TSA officers will inspect. The two machines are being installed at the airport starting this week. During that time, only one screening lane will be open for passengers from February 23 through 25 and March 2 through 4. Passengers should arrive at the airport two hours before their flight’s scheduled departure time.
