Berrien County Animal Control has been saluted by the state for its efforts to help pet owners during the pandemic. Director Tiffany Peterson told the Berrien County Board of Commissioners Thursday one of her staff members got a call from Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office.

“The governor got on and was able to thank her and recognize Berrien County Animal Control,” Peterson said. “We have a pet food pantry that we put together during COVID because a lot of things all of a sudden happened. Food was disappearing off of the shelves, people couldn’t get to the store. Just a lot of complications, and we know how important people’s pets are to them and their families.”

Peterson said the governor’s office released a State of Michigan Tribute to Berrien County Animal Control. She read from it.

“Throughout the pandemic, the Berrien County Animal Control officers worked effortlessly and without hesitation, and their commitment to the safety of those in the community is something that we should all aspire to emulate.”

Peterson said animal control put together emergency kits for pet owners. She thanked her staff for all of its hard work.
