The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has given eight employers around the state Healthy Michigan Worksite Awards for using Designing Healthy Environments at Work tools to help their workers live healthy. Among the employers to be recognized is the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi. The state health department says the Pokagons have “demonstrated a commitment to enhancing their culture of health by focusing on the work environment along with organizational practices and policies.” The band has received a bronze award as a Healthy Michigan Worksite along with four others. They include the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo. Three employers were given gold awards. MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel says the award recipients “serve as models for other Michigan businesses by taking proactive measures to develop and promote a culture of health and implementing data-informed objectives” that are helping their employees live healthy lives
