South Haven Memorial Library will soon reopen to the public for the first time in about a year. Director Jim France tells WSJM News thanks to a 2017 millage, the library has been able to do about $2.3 million in renovations. It’s almost all ready.

“We’ve got a new H-VAC system, a new lighting system, new carpeting, new shelves, a couple of new additions totaling about another 1,400 square feet to the library, including a nice area facing Broadway with a fireplace  and a periodical room.”

France says the work got delayed due to the pandemic and supply shortages, but they’ll be able to have limited public hours starting Monday, April 4. They’ll be open Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. France says it’s a long time coming. How does it feel?

“[It’s been] a long road, but very good.”

Some services won’t be available at first. France says computers won’t be ready and the community room won’t initially be open. Otherwise, everyone will be welcome starting April 4. The library has been offering curbside service since moving back to its permanent location from its temporary location while the work was done.
