Has Congressman Fred Upton decided to seek another term? Due to redistricting, his district is now the new Fourth District, which goes as far north as Holland and covers northern Berrien County, Van Buren County, Kalamazoo, and Allegan. If Upton runs again, he’d be facing off in a Republican primary against Congressman Bill Huizenga. Upton tells WSJM News he hasn’t made a decision yet.

“We’re getting close,” Upton said. “The filing deadline is still more than a month away. The primary’s not until August, but we’ll make a decision soon. A lot of people are encouraging us to run, and we’ve just got to figure this thing out, and we’ll do so in due time.”

Upton says Berrien County faces big changes following Michigan’s redistricting. He notes people south of Benton Harbor and St. Joseph are now in the new Fifth District, which runs east all the way to the other side on Michigan, touching Lake Erie. It’s about 25 miles wide and 200 miles long. Berrien County’s state legislative districts are now also greatly altered.
