The Detroit Red Wings are firing operations manager Al Sobotka after 51 years with the team. Sobotka issued a statement saying he loved his years with the Red Wings and “would have been happy to stay 51 more.” There has been no word of why the team dismissed the 68-year-old. Sobotka became famous for twirling an octopus over his head during playoff games whenever one was thrown on the ice.
