There’s a push this week to make sure drivers are using caution in road construction work areas. National Work Zone Awareness Week kicks off today. Diane Cross with the Michigan Department of Transportation said there were three or four incidents over the weekend where vehicles went into areas where road construction is underway. No one was injured. To bring more awareness to safety, Cross is asking people to wear orange on Wednesday.

“We are asking everyone to wear orange on Wednesday in the idea that everyone wearing orange will make people talk about it and remember that you need to do your part and slow down for our workers as they are just trying to do their jobs. We all want to get home at night.”

Cross says last year in Michigan three road construction workers were killed and 65 were injured.
