Legislation from state Senator Kim LaSata that seeks to improve election security has been approved by the Michigan Legislature and sent on to Governor Gretchen Whitmer for her signature. Her bill would require individuals registering to vote to confirm they understand it is a felony to vote or attempt to vote more than once at the same election, in either the same or another voting precinct. LaSata says “making sure each person understands the law and the consequences of criminal activity is essential for an accurate vote count and will help clerks focus on other election-related duties.” She says an audit of the state’s election shows there is room for improvement. LaSata adds it’s important for Michigan voters to have confidence in the integrity of the process.
