The Lake Township Board of Trustees has appointed a new supervisor to replace the recently deceased John Gast. He passed away March 9 after serving the township for several years. The township board has selected Stan Markavitch after interviewing six candidates. Two of the candidates, Nancy Mensinger and Zach Carson, are trustees on the board. Each candidate was asked if they intend to run for the position in August, and Markavitch was the only one who said he will not run for the post in August. The township board says it believes the voters should get to pick the supervisor when that election is held. It voted unanimously to appoint Markavitch. He’s previously been an employee of Bridgman Public Schools, serving as the pool director, athletic director, and assistant principal of the high school.
