Author, speaker, and sex trafficking survivor Leslie King-Friday will speak at Lake Michigan College this month. LMC criminal justice instructor Brad Byerle tells WSJM News she’ll discuss how to help prevent human trafficking during her presentation, “When Angels Fight” on Friday, April 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. LMC invited her thanks to the Southwest Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force.

“She was trafficked from the age of 15 year old to 20 years old in the Grand Rapids area, so certainly close to us here in southwest Michigan,” Byerle said. “Because of those experiences, she has decided to become a speaker and author and sort of share her story and help others.”

Byerle says human trafficking is more than kidnapping.

“It’s a much broader picture than a lot of people think.”

Sometimes, human trafficking starts when a young woman is lured into prostitution and it becomes forced servitude. Byerle says there will be a panel discussion with several experts from the legal and medical fields following King-Friday’s presentation. To attend, you’ll need a ticket.
