Southwestern Michigan College has a new fight song to go along with its recently reestablished athletics program. SMC Band Director Mark Hollandsworth tells WSJM News it will be played for the public for the first time this week at the Collage Concert. The concert is set for Thursday and the fight song will be the event’s finale.

“The fight song will include the choir,” Hollandsworth said. “There are some vocal parts to it, some kind of chanting parts that have the audience participating with the band, and we’ve also invited the alumni of the SMC Bands to come back and play with us. We’ve had a pretty good response with that so far. So, we’re hoping to fill the stage with current and former members of the band and choirs to unveil our new fight song.”

Hollandsworth says Thursday’s fight song performance will be conducted by former SMC Director of Bands Dr. Jonathan Korzun. He was director of SMC Bands for 28 years, from 1991 to 2019, and was commissioned to compose this original work for SMC. Hollandsworth says he hopes the fight song will soon come to be familiar to all students at SMC.
