The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold the latest meeting on the safety of the Palisades nuclear power plant this month. The NRC says the 2021 record of the plant will be discussed by staff responsible for plant inspection and oversight, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site. For a preview, the NRC says it’s determined Palisades operated safely during 2021. All inspection findings and performance indicators were green or very low safety significance. As a result, Palisades remains under the NRC’s normal level of oversight. The oversight entails thousands of hours of inspection each year. Anyone who wants to attend the safety record meeting can do so on April 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Covert Township Lions Club Community Center in Covert. The Palisades plant in Covert is slated to cease operations next month.
