Opening for its sixth season on May 22 will be the Bridgman Open Air Market. The market operates on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot behind the United Federal Credit Union at Lake Street and Red Arrow Highway. Market Manager Nick Schmidt tells WSJM News it’s been a big success.

“Out market is all hand-crated, hand-made, and homegrown,” Schmidt said. “We don’t allow any resell. We have lots of crafters, several different food vendors, prepared food vendors, produce. More than I can list in the the time allowed.”

Schmidt founded the market and also sells produce there.

“I was doing a different market in a different town and I approached the city [of Bridgman] about holding one there, and went to a couple of different city board meetings and got approved. It’s just blown up from there.”

Schmidt says the Open Air Market is more than a farmer’s market. They have all manners of artisans on hand selling their wares. You can find everything from foraged mushrooms to Native American art to leather products to blade sharpening. Schmidt says hundreds of people pass through each Sunday. The markets will run through October.
